HySSIL, building better buildings for a sustainable world

Overview

HySSIL has developed a range of cellular Geopolymer precast panels which are half the weight of conventional concrete precast panels, with similar durability and strength. The key ingredient, fly ash or, blast furnace slag, in lieu of Ordinary Portland Cement, results in a significant reduction of CO2 emissions (approx. 60%).

The properties of HySSILís range of cellular precast panels are well suited to a wide range of applications including, use in modular construction of single, double and low-rise housing.

 

Geopolymer cellular precast panel systems

The worldwide trend in reducing the impact on the environment, reducing greenhouse gas emissions and reducing the depletion of natural resources has instigated further product development by HySSIL in conjunction with CSIRO in the area of cellular Geopolymer concrete.

The removal of cement from the current cementitious HySSIL product (and replacement with fly-ash) removes the material which has the highest contribution in respect of embodied energy and CO2 emissions. The replacement of cement with a key material, fly ash, also incorporates the use of waste products from coal fired power stations.

Features and Benefits

Cellular Geopolymer panel product has many advantages over the cementitious HySSIL panel product including:
  • Approximately 15% greater compressive and flexural strength at densities between 1000 kg/m3 and 1500 kg/m3
  • Faster curing times which could allow greater re-use of formwork and lower production costs
  • Higher fire and chemical resistance
  • Approximately 60% lower embodied energy






 

HySSIL is developing the Geopolymer cellular panel range as a second generation or alternative to the cementitious HySSIL panel technology for markets where low embodied energy is a key success factor.
